Fasting month of Ramadan begins in China on Thursday

BEIJING, May 16 (APP):Muslims in China will start observing the holy month of Ramadan from Thursday through fasting and prayers.
There are about 20 million Muslims in China, with half of them in the Northwest Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, home to China’s largest Muslim population.
There are more than 57,000 clerical personnel, and 35,000 Islamic mosques in China, according to a white paper recently released by the State Council Information Office.
According to a report, Xinjiang local administration has printed and distributed 1.76 million copies of the Quran and Sahih al-Bukhari, one of six major Hadith collections of Sunni Islam.
