DAMASCUS, (APP/AFP): A UN-backed ceasefire entered into
effect at midnight in Syria (2200 GMT Friday) between the regime and rebels, under an agreement reached Monday between Russia and the United States.
It was the first major ceasefire in the civil war that has lasted
almost five years and claimed more than 270,000 lives.
