CPO suspends three cops on torturing journalists

MULTAN, Sept 20 (APP): CPO Muhammad Saleem Friday suspended three constables on charge of torturing two journalists on the premises of Mumtazabad police station.
SHO Mumtazabad had already been suspended last Wednesday after the incident.
According to details, reporter of Samaa TV Multan Wajihul Hassan
and camera person Saleem Baig had reached Mumtazabad police station
for coverage of raid by a court bailiff last Wednesday. However, when
they started recording footage, some policemen started beating them
causing injuries to both.
Upon hearing the news, Multan Union of Journalists (MUJ), led by
its President Rauf Maan, general secretary Shahadat Hussain, besides
Fazeel Raza Sahu, Ijaz Tareen, Iftikhar ul Hassan, Anjum Pitafi and
other journalists staged protest demonstration in front of police lines
and blocked traffic.
In response to protest, CPO had put SHO Mumtazabad Imran Arif Seyal under suspension and deputed SP cantonment Dr. Fahad to launch inquiry
into the incident.
On Friday, CPO suspended constables Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Asim, and Ghulam Abbas after inquiry report established their role.
