OGDCL playing role in promoting education: Official

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Oil and Gas Development Company
Limited (OGDCL), is playing an important role in promoting regular
and technical education in different parts of the country, a senior
official of the company said Monday.
Under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he said,
OGDCL believed that training and education were essential for
national development. “Education is a building block for change. We
support education initiatives directed at our employees as well as
the people and communities around us,” he told APP.
The official informed that the company had launched a number
of projects under which computers and books were being provided to
schools, renovation of schools was carried out besides encouraging
sports activities and creating learning opportunities for the
younger generation.
Elaborating the company’s education projects, he said, OGDCL
had denoted an amount of Rs58.82 million for the construction of
Girl’s Hostel at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
He said it spent an amount of Rs1.260 million for provision of
furniture, electrification and construction of classrooms for
Government Primary School Dhoke Rajian at Rajian Oil Field, Chakwal.
OGDCL, the official said, constructed boundary wall, water
tank, water cooler at Government Girls High School Chapri Tehsil
Jand at a cost of Rs2.013 million.
He said the company provided electric water coolers, ceiling
fans, multimedia projector, microscope and furniture to Government
Higher Secondary School Umer Dahu, District Ghotki worth Rs1.955
million.
OGDCL, under its CSR program, constructed a class room,
provided computers and printer at Government Higher Secondary School
Chanda Khuram, Karak.
He said the company had always supported educational
activities within its operational areas, adding that it provided
uniforms and copies to needy students of Government Primary School.
The company, he said, spent Rs6.928 million for provision of
books, uniforms and school bags to students of four schools in Dera
Bugti.
Besides, the official said, OGDCL upgraded Petroleum Technical
Training Institute in Khairpur at a cost of Rs 40.165 million aimed
at uplfiting education standard of far flung areas where children do
not have quality education.
It funded the establishment of four fully equipped
laboratories for production and drilling, oil and gas testing
including computer lab and instrumental lab along with relevant text
books, software and audio/visual aid.
OGDCL provided financial assistance amounting to Rs 5 million
to Balochistan Institute of Technical Education for promoting
technical education and training unskilled youth.
The sources said OGDCL had two technical training institutes
at Karak and Quetta where local boys were being provided training in
the field of petroleum industry at an annual expenditure of about
Rs5.185 million.
At these Institutions, he said, about 200 students were
annually trained in various fields of oil and gas industry.
