Special task force to check water theft: minister

MULTAN, May 20 (APP): Irrigation Minister Amanat Ullah Khan
Shadi Khel said that a special task force will be constituted to
check incidents of water theft across the province.
He was talking to the media before holding a session with
farmers to listen to their problems related to irrigation and
agriculture here at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) on
Saturday.
The minister said that all possible steps are being taken
to resolve issues faced by farmers.
He said that it is top priority of the Punjab government to
provide maximum facilities to farmers. He said that the major
issue was water theft and its distribution, which would be
resolved soon.
He said that he would present a report on all these issues,
being faced by farmers, to Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz
Sharif during the next week.
He said that a special task force was being constituted, led
by a senior officer, to check water theft.
Agriculture Minister Muhammad Naeem Akhtar Khan Bhabha told
the media on the occasion that the government was paying special
attention to cotton sowing and 40 per cent extra cotton would
be sown this year compared with the last year.
He said that availability of fertilizers and pesticides was
being ensured in the market to facilitate farmers. He said that
a bumper wheat crop had been reaped this year due to
farmer-friendly policies of the government.
Bhabha said that quality of fertilizer and pesticide was
being monitored properly. He said that the provincial government
and the Kissan Ittehad were on the same page to solve problems
of farmers.
Later, both the ministers listened to problems of farmers and
issued orders for solving them.
