ISLAMABAD, Mar 6 (APP): National Highway Authority (NHA)
Monday moved in the semi-finals of the 53rd National Table Tennis
Championship here at Liaquat Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports
Complex.
The NHA beat Islamabad by 3-0 in the quarterfinal of the
championship while Wapda beat Railway 3-0 in the other quarterfinal.
Sajid Hussain captain of NHA team said he was hopeful that his
team would be victorious in the event.
“This is the first time our team has come up in the semis by
beating all the top teams,” he said.
Responding to a question, he said the NHA was not participating in
the womens event of the championship.
The 53rd National Table Tennis Championship is being organized
by Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) in collaboration with
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
PSB Director General PSB Dr Akthar Nawaz Ganjera inaugurated
the championship while PTTF Chairman Shahid Balouch, PTTF Secretary
Khawaja Hasan, Sindh Table Tennis Association Secretary Salim Ahmed,
Punjab Table Tennis Association Chairman Pir Ehsan ul Haq and
Pakistan Handball Federation coach Mirza Sultan Mehmood was present
on the occasion.
In the matches played earlier of the mens’ team events, Wapda
beat Islamabad 3-0; Islamabad beat KPK 3-0; Railways beat Gilgit
Baltistan 3-0; National Highway Authority (NHA) beat Gilgit
Baltistan 3-0; Pakistan Army beat OGDCL 3-0; Chromatex beat OGDCL 3-
0; Punjab beat Balochistan 3-0 and Islamabad beat Punjab 3-0.
In the womens team event, Pakistan Army beat AJK 3-0; Sindh
beat AJK 3-0; Islamabad beat AJK 3-0; Wapda beat Punjab 3-0 and
Punjab beat Gilgit Baltistan 3-0.
As many as 14 teams are participating in the mens event of the
championship including defending champion Wapda, Railway, Pakistan
Army, Punjab, Sindh, Chromatex, KPK, Boluchistan, Islamabad,
National Highway Authority (NHA), AJK, OGDCL, Gilgit Baltistan and
Islamabad club Karachi.
Meanwhile 10 teams are participating in the womens event of
the championship comprising defending champion Pakistan Army, Wapda,
Sindh, Railways, Punjab, KPK, Boluchistan, Islamabad, AJK and
Gilgit-Baltistan.
The closing ceremony of the championship will held on March 10
where Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister Mian Riaz Husain
Pirzada will be the chief guest.
