Panama leaks, ICIJ have made no allegations of wrongdoing against Sharif family: Spokesman

ISLAMABAD, April 4 (APP): A spokesman of the Sharif family
Monday clarified that Panama Leaks and The International Consortium
of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) have made no allegations of
wrongdoing against Sharif family and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
owned none of the corporations menioned in the leaks.
In a statement issued to settle the disussion surrounding
Panama leaks and ICIJ pertaining to Sharif family, the spokesman
said Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz have been the residents of Saudi
Arabia and US respectively, for over two decades and neither was a
tax payer in Pakistan.
He said they have been diligently filing their company reports
and tax returns in their legal and tax jurisdictions.
The spokesman said Maryum Nawaz Sharif was not a beneficary or
owner of any of these companies, nor has she received any income or
finanial benefits from the corporations owned by her brothers that
warrant any tax disclosures or implications.
The spokesman said Maryum Sharif was merely a trustee of one
of the corporations owned by Hussain Nawaz which would only entitle
her to distribute the assets to Hussain Nawaz’s family if required.
He said Hussain Nawaz has unequivocally and clearly disclosed
all corporations mentioned in the leaks, their sources of funding –
primarily the sales of the steel mill in Jeddah and other financial
facts in recently televised interviews.
“All of the corporations owned by the Sharif family (by
Hussain and Hasaan Nawaz) are legal and financiallly sound. No new
information has been disclosed by the Panama leaks and ICIJ which
was not already in public domain,” the spokesman said.
He said it was regretful that some elements in media and
political rivals were disseminating factually wrong information and
distorting it for political purposes.
