ISLAMABAD, April 5 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz
Sharif on Tuesday rubbished allegations of any wrongdoing and
involvement in any off-shore company, and announced
to set up a Judicial Commission to probe the matter and ascertain
the facts.
“I have decided to set up a high level Judicial
Commission. This commission will be headed by a retired judge
of the Supreme Court,” the Prime Minister said in an address
to the nation aired live following the allegations against
some members of his family by the International
Consortium of Investigative Journalists and Panama Papers.
He said, “This commission will investigate the matter
and give its verdict on what are the actual facts and how
much weightage these allegations have.”
The Prime Minister said those elements who were making
oft-repeated allegations and were making hue and cry everyday
should approach the Judicial Commission and prove their
claims.
Nawaz Sharif said that he never mixed his family’s
business with his functions as the Prime Minister of Pakistan
and his focus remained on taking the country forward on the
path of progress and prosperity and to end an era of darkness.
He said though his aides said that since there was no
allegation against his person in the Panama Papers and he had
done nothing unlawful, or illegal, and he was not under any
obligation to respond to such allegations.
However, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he thought it
was better to take the nation in confidence and share the history
of his family business concerns spanning over the years.
