President for removing bureaucratic hurdles for high-rise buildings
    
     KARACHI, Sept 4 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday
said that the builders must be facilitated by removing
bureaucratic hurdles and simplifying procedures for
securing required permissions for high-rise buildings.
    He was chairing a meeting here at Bilawal House on construction of high-rise buildings in Karachi and reviewed the progress made so far on the decisions  taken during earlier meetings in this regard.
 President Zardari stressed the need for vertical expansion of the
cities and called upon all the stakeholders to work together to
reach a consensus decision to encourage construction of high-rise buildings.
    He also inquired about the progress of the committee that was formed to give recommendations for grant of permission to construct
high-rise buildings and the drafting of appropriate
legislation and regulations.
     Director General Sindh Building Control Authority Manzoor Qadir
while briefing the meeting said that in view of fast-growing population
of the metropolis and various departments controlling land use in
Karachi, there was a need to adopt a unified building bye-laws in the
entire city.
 He said that Karachi Building and Town Planning
Regulations-2002 may be adopted by all the concerned in order to keep
harmony in the construction of the buildings and for the sake of
aesthetic view of the city.
 He said that these comprehensive bye-laws
were notified in consultation with professional bodies,
educationists, stakeholders and other authorities concerned.
     He said that under the directions of the present government the
proposal of High-Rise Corridor in Karachi was also circulated
among professionals, experts, stakeholders and the relevant
authorities for their inputs.
     He informed that Sindh High Density Development Board Act 2010,
passed by Sindh Assembly, has been promulgated and High Density Development
Board comprising the Governor, Chief Minister, Local Government
Minister, Chief Secretary and Secretary Local Government, Nazim of the
respective district, Director General Sindh Building Control Authority
and EDO of the respective district has been notified. He said that the
Sindh Government has also approved Rules and Procedure for the High
Density Zone.
     Director General Civil Aviation Authority Capt. Nadeem Khan Yusufzai
briefed the meeting about its point of  view and put forth
various suggestions.
     The meeting was also attended by Governor Sindh Dr.
Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Secretary
General to the President M. Salman Faruqui, Finance Minister Sindh
Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani,  Sharjeel Memon, Ms. Sharmila Faruqui and other senior federal and
provincial officials of the  departments concerned.
