International Women Day to be observed on Saturday

       ISLAMABAD, Mar 7 (APP): International Women's Day is a global day
celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women
past, present and future on March 8 annually.
      It marks to reflect progress made to call change and
to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women
who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their
countries and communities.
      The theme selected for this year is, "Equality for women is
progress for all" to stresses the vital role of women as agents
of development.
       Like other parts of the world, a number of events has also
been organized to commemorate the day including art exhibitions,
rallies, walks, seminars, discussion forums.
       The main event of the day will be held at Pakistan National Council
of the Arts jointly organized by Ministry of Law Justice and Human Rights,
Aurat Foundation and UN Women.
       Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid,
Chairperson National Commission for the Status of Women, Khawar Mumtaz,
representative of different embassies, high officials from Ministry of
Law Justice, Human Rights, Women Rights Activists and representative of
civil society organizations would participate.
       On the occasion a documentary would also be screened on the
topic 'Women and Democracy'.
       An art exhibition would also be opened at Nomad Art Gallery
on March 9, titled "Art for Social Change, Peace and Activism".
The show would open for general public till March 12
from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm.
       Different colleges and universities has also organized special
programs to highlight issues of women and bring into limelight the
achievements of the brave and struggling women who proved their
abilities despite unfavorable circumstances.
       National Assembly has also unanimously passed a resolution
in its Friday sitting moved by Secretary Women's Parliamentary
Caucus (WPC) Member National Assembly Shaista Pervez Malik.
       The resolution congratulated the Women Parliamentarians
for actively and substantively performing their legislative, oversight
and representative roles, and working collectively for the
Women's socio-economic and political empowerment.
