NADRA clarifies statement on illegal issuance of 500,000 CNICs to aliens

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): The National Database and Registration
Authority (NADRA) on Thursday clarified it is National Alien Registration
Authority (NARA) that has a mandate under the law to register
aliens present in Pakistan.
The Authority clarified that the statement of Chairman of
Senate's Standing Committee on Interior, Senator Talha
Mehmood about NADRA's issuance of Computerized National Identity
Cards (CNICs) to 500,000 aliens has been misreported in a section
of media on Wednesday.
Moreover, the Authority said contrary to reports of media, no documentary evidence was presented in support of this blame on NADRA
to Chairman of Senate's Standing  Committee on Interior during the Committee's meeting.
Also, during his visit to NADRA Headquarters on Thursday
(August 30), Senator Talha Mahmood showed his full confidence in
NADRA and its transparency of processes.
This kind of misreporting damages reputation of
government's organization and also makes citizens lose
faith in critical and sensitive operations of the country.
