Gilani for national movement to achieve 100 percent literacy
ISLAMABAD, Sept 9 (APP): Former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday stressed the importance of education for nation building and called for a national movement to attain the target of 100 per cent literacy. He said educated and learned people were an asset for the society and illiterate a burden. In a message on International Literacy Day, he said education being his passion, he would continue to play an active role in its promotion as a national responsibility and also as a legacy of his forefathers. He said that a historic Education Declaration was signed by all provinces and AJK at a conference held on 17 September, 2011, at Islamabad reaffirming the commitment to eradicate illiteracy and decided to take it up as priority of their Planning and Development Strategy. He expressed satisfaction over a rally in Islamabad today attended by thousands of people that clearly manifested the awareness.
