OIC FMs adopt Pak-sponsored Declaration and speak with one voice against anti-Islam film IFTIKHAR ALI
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 29 (APP): Foreign ministers of Islamic countries spoke with one voice against the blasphemous video on Saturday as they urged all governments to prevent such "despicable" acts through "appropriate measure, including legislation". Meeting on the margins of the 67th session of the U.N. General Assembly, the Foreign Ministers of 57 member states of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) adopted a Pakistan-sponsored Declaration that called the film "Innocence of Muslims" a violation of freedom of expression. The Declaration expressed deep concern on the continuing instances of such Islamophobic acts under the pretext of freedom of expression, which stand in violation of freedom of religion guaranteed by international human rights norms and standards and have deeply offended more than one billion Muslims around the world. It underscores the importance of dialogue, understanding and cooperation among religions, cultures and civilizations for peace and harmony in the world. Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar welcomed the adoption of Declaration, which, she said, conveyed the deeply hurt feelings of people of Pakistan over the video. In her speech, Khar also thanked the OIC for its unwavering support to the right of self-determination of Kashmiri people and resolution of this long-standing dispute in accordance with relevant UN resolutions. She reiterated Pakistan's commitment to finding a just and peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people. Hina Rabbani Khar also outlined Pakistan's position on the issues of international peace and security, including Syria, Mali, Somalia and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. She highlighted the role played by Pakistan as a frontline state in the fight against terrorism and its resolve to continue this fight with ever strong vigour. The Foreign Minister stressed the need for unity and solidarity among Islamic Ummah for mutual success, progress and prosperity.
