Pakistan pursuing 'look east policy': Secretary Information
 
      BEIJING, Oct 20 (APP): The present democratic government
of Pakistan People's Party is pursuing 'look east policy' and
friendship with China is the cornerstone of its foreign policy,
said Federal Information Secretary Chaudhary Rashid Ahmed.
     He made these remarks at a media seminar held for the
developing countries here on Friday. The seminar was organized
by ruling Communist Party of China and CPC Publicity Chief Liu
Yunshan was the chief guest.
    The Secretary Information said recently top Chinese leader
Li Changchen, Member of Standing Committee of the Political
Bureau of Communist Party of China Central Committee, (CPCCC)
had a very successful visit to Pakistan.
    Li met with President Asif Ali Zardari and other Pakistani
leaders to further deepen these friendly ties, he noted.
    He said the government and the people of Pakistan highly
value their relations with their Chinese brethren, and added
Pakistan wanted further cooperation with China in all areas.
    He pointed out that the government and the people of Pakistan
are eager to translate full potential of the relationship for
the mutual benefit of the two countries.
   Highlighting the important role media is playing in promoting
friendly relations as well bringing closer the people of the two
countries, the Secretary Information said the President of China
Radio International Wang Geng Nian led a high level delegation
to Islamabad this week.
    The purpose of his visit was the launching of FM-98 Dosti
Channel, he said, and added Mr. Wang also met with Pakistani
leadership including Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman
Kaira and discussed steps for further enhancement of cooperation
in media.
   Pak-China relations are not only a factor of peace and
stability in the region but also a role model for other nations
to follow, he added.
   Rashid Ahmed said that exchange of media delegations between
Pakistan and China has been a regular feature.
    He said delegates attending the seminar are expected to
gain a greater understanding of China and promote media
cooperation through their visit.
   Pakistani delegation led by Secretary Information Ch Rashid
Ahmed included Director General Internal Publicity, Nasir Jamal
and Director PID Nadeem Haider Kiyani.
   Earlier, in his key-note address, Liu Yunshan, said that
China's media organizations are willing to work with other
developing countries to enhance media cooperation.
   Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central
Committee and head of the CPC Central Committee's Publicity
Department, said it will be of great significance for
developing countries to further promote media cooperation.
   He said Chinese media organizations will work with other
developing countries to promote media cooperation through
improving relevant mechanism and expanding exchanges, to
create an international public opinion environment which is
favorable for consolidating friendship between developing
countries and safeguarding their common interests.
