PA session prorogued after rumpus
LAHORE, Aug 11 (APP): The Punjab Assembly Speaker on Thursday
prorogued the session for an indefinite period after rumpus
in the House.
The session was summoned on the requisition of the opposition to
discuss issue of a new province in southern Punjab.
Earlier, Speaker Rana Mohammed Iqbal had to adjourned the
assembly session for an hour due to an ugly situation that had
taken place following clashes between PPP legislator Fauzia
Behram and Ali Haider Noor Niazi of the unification bloc.
As soon as the House went into session, opposition leader Raja
Riaz taking the floor urged the Speaker to ask Ali Noor Niazi
to apologise for his indecent remarks against a woman
member.
To it, an emotionally charged Niazi told the Chair he
would not do so as he did not commit any sin. Rather, he
complained to the Speaker that the lady member had attacked him
physically and also poked him in the back with a pencil when he was
making a speech.
As the situation went out of control because of slogans and
counter-slogans from both treasury and opposition members, the
Speaker prorogued the session.
