PM's Directive; NDMA distributes 12,700 tents, 3 water plants in
rain hit areas

      ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP): The National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA) on the directive of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza
Gilani has distributed relief items including 12,700 tents, three
water purification plants and 23,000 family ration packs, to the
flood-affected people in Sindh.
      The relief goods have been distributed in the inundated
districts of Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpur Khas besides the
badly damaged Mithi Town of Tharparker District.
      Chairman NDMA Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir visited the affected areas
to take stock of the situation and coordinat with the provincial
authorities for organizing effective and timely relief operations.
   Earlier, he also accompanied Prime Minister Gilani during his
visit to the rain-affected districts this month for supervision of
relief efforts.
      An NDMA officer has been deputed to Provincial Disaster
Management Authority (PDMA), Sindh for effective coordination and
assistance to provincial authorities, a NDMA statement said.
      The Sindh government has catered 13,300 tents for these areas
while ration packs and non-food items are being supplied from

season, the humanitarian community including the United Nations and
non-governmental organizations have not been assigned any role in
view of the limited scope of disaster.
      The National Emergency Operations Room at the NDMA is
functioning round-the-clock to receive requirements and coordinate
response, the statement said.
